I Am Kathy addresses gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria is a feeling of discomfort which can lead to depression, even suicide, in transgender people whose gender identity differs from sex assigned at birth or sex-related physical characteristics. I Am Kathy documents Kathy's journey pursuing her gender affirming health care. Sex, gender, bodies, hormones, what does it mean and how can we make sense of it all? In a time when gender is being politicized, does it matter what gender our neighbor is? What about character and core values? I Am Kathy illustrates the importantance of gender affirming health care and the need to recognize gender dysphoria is real, as well as the consequences of not adressing the needs of the transgender community.
